Steeped in history, the Castle is a combination of military & cultural history. Built between 1666 & 1679 this pentagonal fort is the oldest building in South Africa with the five bastions named after the main titles of Willem the Prince of Orange. Open to visitors 7 days a week, there are many places of interest to visit within its walls like the Castle forge, the Lady Ann Barnard Room & the notorious Torture Room & Dungeon.
