Cape Point Nature Reserve |
|
One of the major attractions in the area is Cape Point itself, with the legendary Cape of Good Hope. Climb the stairs to the old lighthouse, but don´t make the mistake of dashing up, turning around & leaving the reserve.(There is a funicular to the top if you don´t feel like exerting energy!) Walk to the new lighthouse & feel the height of the cliffs & the power of the wind. Spend some time ticking off the list of animals, various small mammals, antelope, zebras, baboons & birds. Stop at the informative Buffelsfontein information centre & visit some of the beaches that are a little off the beaten track. A visit to the reserve could take you the whole day!
And while you are there visit Cape Point Ostrich Farm opposite the national park gates. Ostriches are flightless birds & have the accolade of being Africa´s largest birds. The Cape Point Ostrich Farm is a great spot to learn about the entire life cycle of these enormous birds & during breeding season there is a strong likelihood of experiencing the hatching of an ostrich chick. There is a coffee shop & a store selling ostrich leather products.
